I have a memory. It was a wet November day. The wind was relentless. bitter and cold. My Father and I stood outside of what was left of the old barn. It was skeletal, its days of glory long past. Our once magnificent house had been bulldozed to the ground by the present owner. The source of all my childhood memories had become nothing more than the investment of a stranger. Today Dad had on his usual old green hat, but I had seldom seen the ear flaps pulled down. His jacket was too thin for the weather. Conversation was difficult; the wind carried away words the moment they left our lips. Three months had passed since the tragic death of my mother. For the first time in eighty-eight years my father now lived alone. I looked into his face and saw his struggle, and that s when I knew I would never forget this moment. It would be a heart memory. This man had always done the right thing, followed all the rules and given freely without expecting re-payment or accolades of any kind. Did my late Mother s words ever filter through his mind, ?No family can continue to be so lucky Did he think the pain had ended? During the coming years would he ever question the God he believed so strongly in? At times I know I did.

Lissa Bradford owns an up and coming catering business, and she's just about to have a promising interview for an event that could make her career. But when she arrives at the company's headquarters, she finds herself face to face with the CEO of the company - and he seems none too pleased at having to conduct the interview in place of his assistant! Gregory Thorne has a reputation as a tough, single-minded businessman who never mixes business and pleasure. But Lissa Bradford's dangerous curves threaten to derail him, and he finds himself tempted to break his one unbendable rule! Catering to the Billionaire is a completely stand-alone romantic erotica story. It is also part one of the new series, The Billionaire's Appetites, coming soon from erotica author Daphne Loveling! Excerpt:"Ms. Bradford," Thorne sighed, refusing to meet her gaze. Cutting his eyes back to the computer screen, he pressed a button, and then returned to meet her gaze. "I'm a very busy man, and this meeting has come at a very inconvenient time. Perhaps you could just leave your menus and any other materials for when Ms. Randall gets back. I'll see that she gets them." His tone was dismissive, the meeting clearly already over in his mind. Lissa, however, had reached her limit. The stress of preparing for this interview, combined with the disappointment of having it all come to nothing and the unbelievable arrogance of this man, had pushed her beyond what she could tolerate."Mr. Thorne," Lissa began, her tone icy. "I, too, am a very busy woman. Perhaps not as important as you, but arguably much busier, because my livelihood depends more immediately on my success. You see, Mr. Thorne, I am trying to build a successful catering business. With all of my own capital. Everything I own is invested in Select Catering. This contract, if I were to get it, represents a considerable amount of money and exposure for me. If it went well, that would allow me to hire more employees and eventually be able to operate

A thrilling adaptation, by acclaimed poet and playwright Liz Lochhead, that stays refreshingly close to Bram Stoker's classic novel. Asked to adapt it by the Royal Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh, she immersed herself in the book. 'After a sleepless night,' she writes in the Introduction, 'my hair was standing on end, what with the mad Renfield in his lunatic asylum eating flies and playing John the Baptist to his coming master and with Lucy's description of her "dream" of flying with the red-eyed one above the lighthouse at Whitby, and Jonathan's "dream" of the three Vampire Brides' advances upon him and of their being repelled at the last minute by the furious Dracula 'This was before I'd even got to the abducted children or "the loving hand" of Lucy's fiancé staking her through the heart or that shocking rape-like bit where, with Mina's newly-wed husband Jonathan asleep in a flushed stupor by her side, Dracula, at her throat, takes his fill of her life's-blood 'Still, what really attracted me to the story was Rule One for becoming a vampire-victim: "First of all you have to invite him in."' Ideal for schools and drama groups, this Dracula is all the more chilling for the respect it shows for Stoker's original nightmare creation. Liz Lochhead's version of Dracula premiered at the Royal Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh, in March 1985. 'Despite remaining faithful to Bram Stoker's original, Lochhead's version grapples with contemporary preoccupations: gender roles, the horrors of the 20th century, the battles between faith and reason, madness and sanity, democracy and aristocracy. an erudite revisiting of a primal myth' The Stage

Leaving Normal: Adventures in Gender is creative nonfiction that takes an unflinching but humorous look at living as a butch in a pink/blue, boy-girl, M/F world. Here's my theory: I've always been a butch. When I was a child, it was called being a "tomboy" (also known as "embarrassing my mother"). Back then, I liked to think I was a boy-girl hybrid, perhaps grown from special heirloom seeds. Later in life, I came out as a lesbian, which explained my fondness for flannel and sensible shoes, as well as my masculine ways. Still, something wasn't quite right. I watched spectator-like as my hair got shorter and my clothes started coming from the opposite side of the department store. When someone called me "sir" for the first time, I realized I had unintentionally crossed over into foreign territory - that sliver of space that exists in the middle place between the absolutes of boy and girl. Leaving Normal: Adventures in Gender is for anyone who has ever felt different, especially those who have found themselves living in the gender margins without a rule book. The topic of gender nonconformity is red hot right now as it was recently dubbed "the next civil rights frontier" by Time magazine.

Have you ever been frustrated, aggravated, irritated, upset, disturbed, annoyed, bothered, perturbed or discouraged when you are trying to write a decent paragraph in the English language, and suddenly found out that you are not sure of the grammar rules, and it is hard to locate that wizard to tell you once and for all whether you should place a comma here or there? You probably look into your dictionary first and scream out loud or yell at the innocent computer screen because the information you are looking for is not there. Do not panic or dread; help is on the way. This book is an attempt to give you a summary of resources when it comes to grammar in laypersons language. With the index in the back of the book, you will be able to easily and effortlessly locate what you want to look up and find the answer right at your fingertips. Speaking from previous English knowledge, skills, practices, understandings, familiarities and know-how, I realize that sometimes the more grammar books you read, the more confused you get. There are tons of grammar books out there, but upon which one can you rely? There are contradictions constantly when you read more than one grammar book. One book will tell you to use an "s" after 2005s to execute plurality; others may not recommend the same. In addition, languages are animate. They change all the time. They can get sick and die, and they can have newly generated sounds and words. Language has a life. Born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand, English was taught to me at an early age, but it was taught as a foreign language, where there were only a few English classes per week. I did not have the opportunity of being in a bilingual environment. I struggled and studied hard. My parents made sure that I received a great education. English was taught to me by so many teachers and professors from many different countries, some of whom were not native speakers of the English language. I received many different grammar rules that of

As a general rule we do not want much encouragement to talk about ourselves; yet this little book is the result of a friendly suggestion, and even of a little friendly pressure. I defended myself with some spirit; but, with characteristic tenacity, the friendly voice insisted, "You know, you really must." It was not an argument, but I submitted at once. If one must! You perceive the force of a word. He who wants to persuade should put his trust not in the right argument, but in the right word. The power of sound has always been greater than the power of sense. I don't say this by way of disparagement. It is better for mankind to be impressionable than reflective. Nothing humanely great-great, I mean, as affecting a whole mass of lives-has come from reflection. On the other hand, you cannot fail to see the power of mere words; such words as Glory, for instance, or Pity. I won't mention any more. They are not far to seek. Shouted with perseverance, with ardour, with conviction, these two by their sound alone have set whole nations in motion and upheaved the dry, hard ground on which rests our whole social fabric. There's "virtue" for you if you like!Of course the accent must be attended to. The right accent. That's very important. The capacious lung, the thundering or the tender vocal chords. Don't talk to me of your Archimedes' lever. He was an absent-minded person with a mathematical imagination. Mathematics commands all my respect, but I have no use for engines. Give me the right word and the right accent and I will move the world.

In January 2011 I decided to try my next diet. I had been exploring different diets for about 20 years by this point but this next one was different. This one made sense, common sense. I had already been a big proponent of getting back to our roots and getting as natural as possible. I had also recently been exposed to the theory that the Agricultural Age was the beginning of the demise of mankind. Mass producing food just did not seem natural, and when I found that there was a way to eat that supported my beliefs, I was all in. Before I could finish The Paleo Diet by Robb Wolf, I was blasting all over social media about how this was the only way to eat. I was even, for a short while, the "Paleo police" and would criticize people who were not following the "rules" to a tee. Realizing I was being a jerk, I gave up my badge for the Paleo police but I continued making posts and bragging about my progress. I even started taking on personal training clients after taking a break for many years. To me, eating this way was the missing ingredient to my success as a personal trainer. Within six months of going paleo, I lost around 35 pounds, dropped to a weight I had never seen as an adult, and accomplished things I never thought I could do, like run four miles barefoot and do pull-ups and ring dips. The transformation was amazing. Over the years I've received several inquiries from friends and family on Facebook asking how I achieved these results. My advice was simple: eat these foods, don't eat these foods, and read these books. Every single person I gave this advice to, failed miserably. I couldn't understand why when it was exactly how I got results! I would even get a little frustrated (maybe a lot) at the fact that people weren't achieving good results with the advice I was giving them. In my mind, I gave great advice. Then someone pointed out to me that not everyone was like me. Not everyone was a gung-ho, all or nothing, do-it-now type of person. That's when I

The Allied landings in 1944 had all the prospects for disaster. Churchill thought he would be woken up to be told of massive casualties. Eisenhower prepared a somber broadcast announcing that the enterprise had failed. The specter of failure was always present. After a failed landing the Nazi regime would have regained the ascendant. New, terrifying bombs and rockets were ready to be launched. Long-distance submarines were in the final stage of development. The last million Jews of Europe were listed for deportation and death. Failure at Normandy could have given Hitler the chance of continuing to rule western Europe, particularly if the United States, bloodied and defeated in Normandy, had decided-after two and a half years of focusing on Europe-to turn all its energies to the ever-growing demands of the Pacific, leaving Europe to its own devices. Had that happened, I doubt if I would have been alive to write this book, or free to express my opinions without fear of arrest."-Martin Gilbert

Warriors, pirates, murderers and queens. Throughout history, women from all walks of life have had good reason to be cranky. Some of our most memorable historical figures were outspoken, dramatic, brave, feisty, rebellious and downright ornery. Cranky Ladies of History is a celebration of 22 women who challenged conventional wisdom about appropriate female behaviour, from the ancient world all the way through to the twentieth century. Some of our protagonists are infamous and iconic, while others have been all but forgotten under the heavy weight of history. Sometimes you have to break the rules before the rules break you. Greetings Fellow Gamers, Welcome to the N.G.o.M. (New Gods of Mankind) basic rule system for Gods, Armies, and Tribes. This system allows for gods and armies to be added seamlessly to your gameplay, expanding your story, and giving a tribe for your heroes to belong to. In New Gods of Mankind, you will create a character-a deity-and play out the god's actions and responses to a setting and plot described by Fate. There is no clear-cut winner or loser; you are successful if your god grows in strength and power, and unsuccessful if your god is forgotten or your followers are extinguished. It is your goal to become the biggest and most powerful god you can. The other players are trying to do the same, however, and you will also have other, far more experienced deities and spirits trying to kill off or convert your followers so you do not succeed. More importantly, you "win" if you and your friends have fun, even if your god is crushed and forgotten. It is my desire to give you a condensed version of the New Gods of Mankind ruleset I created with several others back in 2006.These rules will be readily adaptable to any game system. My goal is to see you use part or all of these rules for your next game. I want people to create their own worlds and have fun writing stories with their friends. Have Fun!

I would live in a castle of my own, and servants would bring me my every wish and desire. She would smile and say that when it came to comparison my castle would be superior to hers. Her eyes would suddenly light up and her head would tilt back. She was convinced that I would rule with an iron fist and an open heart. She would lift my chin up with her finger and say "Princess Katia. You will be queen, my love, and roses will bloom as you walk past them. Your people will bow to you not in fear, but out of respect." I dreamed about that very day when I was a little girl. Well, mother…you were wrong because that was a freaking fairytale.

We all have stories. Mine is really not that much different from anyone else. The difference is I choose to share them. During this journey, I had completed one assignment after another. I have reached and made it through my challenges, allowing now the blessings to follow to fulfill my purpose. The greatest gift I have given myself is to love myself and then enjoying doing things for myself. This book explains the procedures, rules, and precautions to making your journey successful and helps manage mistakes and disappointments. I was called to serve and help others along this journey through sharing my story. By sharing, it will impact the lives of others in a positive way. Help others to improve their quality of life and learn to answer their calling and know their purpose. By internalizing the information in this book, many readers will have gained a greater understanding of life's purpose. It will be a privilege to those who answer their calling in order to experience it. For some facing the man in the mirror, it will cause a positive change and bring about a resetting of priorities. Make it clear to yourself to never be afraid of the depth of love toward another and provide every relationship with a dedication and a lot of effort response. This will cause demands on a high expectation to start a moment for the better in your life, without expecting demands or approval from another person that only knows your name but not your story.

Carl Merritt comes from a world where no rules apply, where violence has always simmered close to the surface. Still in his teens, he became trapped in a world of illegal fighting. The men who owned Carl built him into an awesome opponent, and plunged him into a world of appalling violence, crime, and retribution. Armed with firsts, elbows, feet, teeth, and forehead, Carl would target his opponents inside the cage, from which there was no escape. Only the strongest survived. Some of Carl's opponents were even slaughtered by their own supporters, as so much money had been gambled and lost on them. London, Paris, Dublin, Melbourne, Los Angeles, Las Vegas-Carl lost track of the number of times he was smuggled into a deserted underground car park or an empty warehouse, in a strange land. Carl's most recent fight nearly proved fatal to both fighters, and once and for all he has left the bloody metal arena behind. Now he wants to break the cage's strict code of silence to reveal how it has become the most deadly sport in the world.

The history of the United States in the last thirty years, its preoccupation with the Vietnam War and the devastating affects of that war on the psyche of this nation is evidence of a foreign policy tragedy. Foreign policy tragedy brings domestic tragedy in its wake. The purpose of this study is to work out why the approaches to social revolution-and that is what the Vietnam War was about-have been wrong on both sides of the ideological spectrum the last thirty years in the U.S, point out why they were wrong, point to where they were wrong, and point to the consequences of acting in a society when the perceptions are in certain respects wrong. Let me sum up my perception on what went wrong in Vietnam. It was a Right wing war fought on Left wing premises. It was a war that could not have been won because those who designed it would not or could not win it-but were also afraid of losing it. It was a war that was wrongly perceived by both sides of the ideological spectrum. The Liberal argument was that America tried everything and 'still' lost it! The Conservative argument was that it could have been won if the opposition had not tied their hands, keeping them from an all out effort that would have been required to win it. The war was started in earnest by the Liberals under Kennedy. The strategy was to roll up the enemy by hitting on the peasant and through it, cut off the leaders. Pacification, education, re-education, indoctrination, and the introduction of 'self-defense' techniques to the South Vietnamese peasants was meant to stop the revolution exported from the North in its tracks. The U.S. policy was predicated on the assumption that the peasants really had something to do with the ruling functions of the North Vietnamese revolution after Thermidor; that after the onset of Thermidor-after the 'institutionalization' of the revolution-in Hanoi, the 'revolution' was still revolution. The 'Liberal' approach has believed that revolution is tantamount t

AshDespite everything I've done for my parents, I'll never be good enough for them. Instead of seeing a man to be proud of, they just see an embarrassment. I served four tours in Afghanistan but that doesn't mean anything to them. They only see the ink, the party life, and my short stint in jail. And nothing else. But now they refuse to pay me back until I become the man they think I should be. AlessandraI have an unusual professional.I escort men, acting as their date to family functions or work parties. It's my job to act deeply in love with my client. And I always nail it. But it's not what you think.I'm not a prostitute.I'm not a call girl.I'm an actress. Get it right. There are strict rules when it comes to my profession. There is no touching, kissing, or anything but hand-holding. Those who choose not to comply will get a swift kick in the nuts. But all this goes to hell when Ash walks into my life.

Please see extended summary. It's not easy being nine, especially when you're Sassy Simone Sanford. Especially when you were named for sticking out your tongue on the day you were born. Especially when everyone in the family calls you Little Sister. And if that's not bad enough, imagine being the youngest in the family. Imagine watching your big brother and sister have all the fun. Imagine being left out of the cool stuff your older sibs get to do-just because you're younger. Just because you're in the fourth grade. Just because Mom and Dad rule. Well, nothing stops Sassy. All she has to do is reach into her Sassy Sack to find the right lip gloss, hair clip, or rubber band, and life's problems get solved. And thanks to her best friends, Carmelita, Jazzy, and Tandy, the most sour situations can become as sweet as honey!

Life is a surreal trip to the valley of the unknown. At times it feels like we were born thrown into the main arena of the coliseum gladiator pit of life. The ups and downs of an ongoing battle where we must abide rules of survival can create discouragement, which can cause us to stray from an end result to a finishing point. We all started from somewhere-an unknown organism changing into human form-but we have questions: Where did we originate from? Why are we here on earth? Are we doing what we are supposed to be doing here? Is life here a punishment? And why is the time before birth blocked from our memory This book is an exploration of the soul-a tour into the journey of our existence. This book is not about religion; it is a hypothetical version of my view on why we are living here on earth. My intention is for us to become more conscious of the one shot we have as we live our current lives. If all of our souls have stories to tell, what would yours say? In this book, I am sharing my soul story in a memoir. This is a voyage into the mind of another human being, and this visit to my inner world may appear at times dark. This is because I have overcome some of my demons, but I must confess I have yet still other demons to wrestle with mentally.I want to share with you my thoughts and see if they lend a hand in your plight here. We are all lost at some point in our lives and at times are led by a misguided life compass. My goal is to assist you in your bad day, bad week, or bad life, and to make you stop and think.I wrote this book exactly how it was conveyed to me by the voices that live in my head. God bless-whatever vision of God may be to you.

TOWARDS the close of the seventies I began to collect Welsh folklore. I did so partly because others had set the example elsewhere, and partly in order to see whether Wales could boast of any story-tellers of the kind that delight the readers of Campbell's Popular Tales of the West Highlands. I soon found what I was not wholly unprepared for, that as a rule I could not get a single story of any length from the mouths of any of my fellow countrymen, but a considerable number of bits of stories. In some instances these were so scrappy that it took me years to discover how to fit them into their proper context; but, speaking generally, I may say, that, as the materials, such as they were, accumulated, my initial difficulties disappeared. I was, however, always a little afraid of refreshing my memory with the legends of other lands lest I should read into those of my own, ideas possibly foreign to them. While one is busy collecting, it is safest probably not to be too much engaged in comparison: when the work of collecting is done that of comparing may begin. But. after all I have not attempted to proceed very far in that direction, only just far enough to find elucidation here and there for the meaning of items of folklore brought under my notice. To have gone further would have involved me in excursions hopelessly beyond the limits of my undertaking, for comparative folklore has lately assumed such dimensions, that it seems best to leave it to those who make it their special study.

Memory is the Mother of the Muses, the prototype of the Artist. As a rule she selects and relieves out the important, omitting what is accidental or trivial. Now and then, however, she makes mistakes like all other artists. Nevertheless I take Memory in the main as my guide. I was born on the 14th of February 1855, and named James Thomas, after my father's two brothers: my father was in the Navy, a lieutenant in command of a revenue cutter or gunboat, and we children saw him only at long intervals. My earliest recollection is being danced on the foot of my father's brother James, the Captain of an Indiaman, who paid us a visit in the south of Kerry when I was about two. I distinctly remember repeating a hymn by heart for him, my mother on the other side of the fireplace, prompting: then I got him to dance me a little more, which was all I wanted. I remember my mother telling him I could read, and his surprise. The next memory must have been about the same time: I was seated on the floor screaming when my father came in and asked: "What's the matter?" "It's only Master Jim", replied the nurse crossly, "he's just screaming out of sheer temper, Sir, look, there's not a tear in his eye". A year or so later, it must have been, I was proud of walking up and down a long room while my mother rested her hand on my head, and called me her walking stick. Later still I remember coming to her room at night: I whispered to her and then kissed her, but her cheek was cold and she didn't answer, and I woke the house with my shrieking: she was dead. I felt no grief, but something gloomy and terrible in the sudden cessation of the usual household activities.

Middle School is a challenging time for all kids. Being Autistic meant that middle school would be twice the challenge for me. I will never forget that nightmare year when my locker was my biggest bully and the other kids used my locker to try and hurt me. This book shares my junior high experiences in hopes of making your child's junior high experience better. Learn the unwritten social rule. Socializing changes in a big way as we get into junior high school. In Elementary School children run around on the playground chasing one another, swing on the swing set, and play fun games at recess. Now when junior highers are allotted a recess time there is not as much game playing as there is conversation and gossip. Your child may notice the other children changing in the way they socialize but may not be able to figure out what is going on or why this is happening. Your child on the Autism Spectrum may be struggling to comprehend why their peers are changing so suddenly. This book is a remarkable tool to parents and educators for helping them understand what it can be like for someone with Autism to deal with these overwhelming social changes in life.

This is a volatile, unstable and hostile world. The Light and Darkness are on an equal footing as humanity uncomfortably leaves the last Dark Age. God's creation, the world and all human souls are struck by harsh energies on a regular basis. This is due to the dark side of humanity ruling with its uncontrollable and disruptive ego. Author, Kevin Hunter, channels messages from the other side surrounding what Spirit has to say about humanity and what this life is all about. Some of the many topics brought to light are Hell and the Devil, the real monsters of society, the Ego, what happens to your spirit and soul when you die, the soul, spirit and power of the light, humanity's destruction, mass hysteria, prayer, Jesus, abortion, race and homosexuality. The Light's ultimate message in the end is what the entire spirit world is bathed in and that is love. This pocket book is part of a series of Warrior of Light books. Some of the content in all of the Warrior of Light pocket books are available in three bigger books called, Warrior of Light: Messages from my Guides and Angels, Empowering Spirit Wisdom, and Darkness of Ego.
