Carl Merritt comes from a world where no rules apply, where violence has always simmered close to the surface. Still in his teens, he became trapped in a world of illegal fighting. The men who owned Carl built him into an awesome opponent, and plunged him into a world of appalling violence, crime, and retribution. Armed with firsts, elbows, feet, teeth, and forehead, Carl would target his opponents inside the cage, from which there was no escape. Only the strongest survived. Some of Carl's opponents were even slaughtered by their own supporters, as so much money had been gambled and lost on them. London, Paris, Dublin, Melbourne, Los Angeles, Las Vegas-Carl lost track of the number of times he was smuggled into a deserted underground car park or an empty warehouse, in a strange land. Carl's most recent fight nearly proved fatal to both fighters, and once and for all he has left the bloody metal arena behind. Now he wants to break the cage's strict code of silence to reveal how it has become the most deadly sport in the world.

The history of the United States in the last thirty years, its preoccupation with the Vietnam War and the devastating affects of that war on the psyche of this nation is evidence of a foreign policy tragedy. Foreign policy tragedy brings domestic tragedy in its wake. The purpose of this study is to work out why the approaches to social revolution-and that is what the Vietnam War was about-have been wrong on both sides of the ideological spectrum the last thirty years in the U.S, point out why they were wrong, point to where they were wrong, and point to the consequences of acting in a society when the perceptions are in certain respects wrong. Let me sum up my perception on what went wrong in Vietnam. It was a Right wing war fought on Left wing premises. It was a war that could not have been won because those who designed it would not or could not win it-but were also afraid of losing it. It was a war that was wrongly perceived by both sides of the ideological spectrum. The Liberal argument was that America tried everything and 'still' lost it! The Conservative argument was that it could have been won if the opposition had not tied their hands, keeping them from an all out effort that would have been required to win it. The war was started in earnest by the Liberals under Kennedy. The strategy was to roll up the enemy by hitting on the peasant and through it, cut off the leaders. Pacification, education, re-education, indoctrination, and the introduction of 'self-defense' techniques to the South Vietnamese peasants was meant to stop the revolution exported from the North in its tracks. The U.S. policy was predicated on the assumption that the peasants really had something to do with the ruling functions of the North Vietnamese revolution after Thermidor; that after the onset of Thermidor-after the 'institutionalization' of the revolution-in Hanoi, the 'revolution' was still revolution. The 'Liberal' approach has believed that revolution is tantamount t

Sawai Man Singh II of Jaipur: Life and Legend is the story of how fate catapulted Kanwar Mor Mukut Singh of Isarda to the throne of Jaipur, a state that he ruled as Sawai Man Singh II for twenty-seven years before its merger with independent India. From being a ruler to serving as India's ambassador in Spain, he lived through a period of Indian history marked with glory and upheavals. Flamboyant, debonair and elegant, he had two overriding passions - polo and his third wife, Maharani Gayatri Devi. His polo team ravaged England in 1933, winning all major tournaments - a feat yet unparalleled. His romance with Gayatri Devi, the stunningly beautiful princess from Cooch Behar, is the stuff of legend. Sawai Man Singh's dream was to die 'in a polo field, in the midst of a chukka, with my friends around me, my pony under me, my polo stick in my hand, and my boots on'. On 24 June 1970 at Cirencester, England, his dream was fulfilled, plunging the world in grief.

AshDespite everything I've done for my parents, I'll never be good enough for them. Instead of seeing a man to be proud of, they just see an embarrassment. I served four tours in Afghanistan but that doesn't mean anything to them. They only see the ink, the party life, and my short stint in jail. And nothing else. When they were in trouble, I handed over my life savings. I didn't think twice about it because they're my family, my blood. They raised me to be my own man and gave me everything I needed. It didn't matter that it was every penny I had. It didn't matter that the money was set aside for my future. My dreams. Because they needed me. But now they refuse to pay me back until I become the man they think I should be. AlessandraI have an unusual professional.I escort men, acting as their date to family functions or work parties. It's my job to act deeply in love with my client. And I always nail it. But it's not what you think.I'm not a prostitute.I'm not a call girl.I'm an actress. Get it right. There are strict rules when it comes to my profession. There is no touching, kissing, or anything but hand-holding. Those who choose not to comply will get a swift kick in the nuts. But all this goes to hell when Ash walks into my life.

Please see extended summary. It's not easy being nine, especially when you're Sassy Simone Sanford. Especially when you were named for sticking out your tongue on the day you were born. Especially when everyone in the family calls you Little Sister. And if that's not bad enough, imagine being the youngest in the family. Imagine watching your big brother and sister have all the fun. Imagine being left out of the cool stuff your older sibs get to do-just because you're younger. Just because you're in the fourth grade. Just because Mom and Dad rule. Well, nothing stops Sassy. All she has to do is reach into her Sassy Sack to find the right lip gloss, hair clip, or rubber band, and life's problems get solved. And thanks to her best friends, Carmelita, Jazzy, and Tandy, the most sour situations can become as sweet as honey!

Life is a surreal trip to the valley of the unknown. At times it feels like we were born thrown into the main arena of the coliseum gladiator pit of life. The ups and downs of an ongoing battle where we must abide rules of survival can create discouragement, which can cause us to stray from an end result to a finishing point. We all started from somewhere-an unknown organism changing into human form-but we have questions: Where did we originate from? Why are we here on earth? Are we doing what we are supposed to be doing here? Is life here a punishment? And why is the time before birth blocked from our memory This book is an exploration of the soul-a tour into the journey of our existence. This book is not about religion; it is a hypothetical version of my view on why we are living here on earth. My intention is for us to become more conscious of the one shot we have as we live our current lives. If all of our souls have stories to tell, what would yours say? In this book, I am sharing my soul story in a memoir. This is a voyage into the mind of another human being, and this visit to my inner world may appear at times dark. This is because I have overcome some of my demons, but I must confess I have yet still other demons to wrestle with mentally.I want to share with you my thoughts and see if they lend a hand in your plight here. We are all lost at some point in our lives and at times are led by a misguided life compass. My goal is to assist you in your bad day, bad week, or bad life, and to make you stop and think.I wrote this book exactly how it was conveyed to me by the voices that live in my head. God bless-whatever vision of God may be to you.

TOWARDS the close of the seventies I began to collect Welsh folklore. I did so partly because others had set the example elsewhere, and partly in order to see whether Wales could boast of any story-tellers of the kind that delight the readers of Campbell's Popular Tales of the West Highlands. I soon found what I was not wholly unprepared for, that as a rule I could not get a single story of any length from the mouths of any of my fellow countrymen, but a considerable number of bits of stories. In some instances these were so scrappy that it took me years to discover how to fit them into their proper context; but, speaking generally, I may say, that, as the materials, such as they were, accumulated, my initial difficulties disappeared. I was, however, always a little afraid of refreshing my memory with the legends of other lands lest I should read into those of my own, ideas possibly foreign to them. While one is busy collecting, it is safest probably not to be too much engaged in comparison: when the work of collecting is done that of comparing may begin. But. after all I have not attempted to proceed very far in that direction, only just far enough to find elucidation here and there for the meaning of items of folklore brought under my notice. To have gone further would have involved me in excursions hopelessly beyond the limits of my undertaking, for comparative folklore has lately assumed such dimensions, that it seems best to leave it to those who make it their special study.

Memory is the Mother of the Muses, the prototype of the Artist. As a rule she selects and relieves out the important, omitting what is accidental or trivial. Now and then, however, she makes mistakes like all other artists. Nevertheless I take Memory in the main as my guide. I was born on the 14th of February 1855, and named James Thomas, after my father's two brothers: my father was in the Navy, a lieutenant in command of a revenue cutter or gunboat, and we children saw him only at long intervals. My earliest recollection is being danced on the foot of my father's brother James, the Captain of an Indiaman, who paid us a visit in the south of Kerry when I was about two. I distinctly remember repeating a hymn by heart for him, my mother on the other side of the fireplace, prompting: then I got him to dance me a little more, which was all I wanted. I remember my mother telling him I could read, and his surprise. The next memory must have been about the same time: I was seated on the floor screaming when my father came in and asked: "What's the matter?" "It's only Master Jim", replied the nurse crossly, "he's just screaming out of sheer temper, Sir, look, there's not a tear in his eye". A year or so later, it must have been, I was proud of walking up and down a long room while my mother rested her hand on my head, and called me her walking stick. Later still I remember coming to her room at night: I whispered to her and then kissed her, but her cheek was cold and she didn't answer, and I woke the house with my shrieking: she was dead. I felt no grief, but something gloomy and terrible in the sudden cessation of the usual household activities.

Middle School is a challenging time for all kids. Being Autistic meant that middle school would be twice the challenge for me. I will never forget that nightmare year when my locker was my biggest bully and the other kids used my locker to try and hurt me. This book shares my junior high experiences in hopes of making your child's junior high experience better. Learn the unwritten social rule. Socializing changes in a big way as we get into junior high school. In Elementary School children run around on the playground chasing one another, swing on the swing set, and play fun games at recess. Now when junior highers are allotted a recess time there is not as much game playing as there is conversation and gossip. Your child may notice the other children changing in the way they socialize but may not be able to figure out what is going on or why this is happening. Your child on the Autism Spectrum may be struggling to comprehend why their peers are changing so suddenly. This book is a remarkable tool to parents and educators for helping them understand what it can be like for someone with Autism to deal with these overwhelming social changes in life.

This is a volatile, unstable and hostile world. The Light and Darkness are on an equal footing as humanity uncomfortably leaves the last Dark Age. God's creation, the world and all human souls are struck by harsh energies on a regular basis. This is due to the dark side of humanity ruling with its uncontrollable and disruptive ego. Author, Kevin Hunter, channels messages from the other side surrounding what Spirit has to say about humanity and what this life is all about. Some of the many topics brought to light are Hell and the Devil, the real monsters of society, the Ego, what happens to your spirit and soul when you die, the soul, spirit and power of the light, humanity's destruction, mass hysteria, prayer, Jesus, abortion, race and homosexuality. The Light's ultimate message in the end is what the entire spirit world is bathed in and that is love. This pocket book is part of a series of Warrior of Light books. Some of the content in all of the Warrior of Light pocket books are available in three bigger books called, Warrior of Light: Messages from my Guides and Angels, Empowering Spirit Wisdom, and Darkness of Ego.

'Apart from derivation, compounding is the most important event within the process of word formation, i.e. the combination of two or more freely distributed morphemes or morpheme sequences (words) to a compound, whereby - as a rule - the last constituent determines both word of speech, as well as inflectional class' (BUBMANN 2002: 360). This definition of compounding is based on several linguistic works and theories, one of which Elisabeth Selkirk's Syntax of Words is one of. This work will focus on Selkirk's account of compounding and make a comparison between the English and Dutch language. Thereby, I will summarize Selkirk's main points and contrast them to comparable qualities of the Dutch language. My aim is to examine whether or not and in what way Selkirk's account of compounding in English is universally applicable. This examination will comprise the main topics Headedness, Right-hand Head Rule, Percolation, and First Order Projection Condition. Headedness, Right-hand Head Rule, and Percolation in English In her work The Syntax of Words, Selkirk defines English compounds to be 'a type of word structure made up of two constituents, each belonging to one of the categories Noun, Adjective, Verb, or Preposition' (1982: 13). She suggests a context-free grammar for generating compound word structures - consisting of a set of context-free rewriting rules - (cf. 1982: 13 - 16). and furthermore differentiates endocentric compounds from exocentric (nonheaded) compounds. The first kind shows a head customary on the right and is predominant in English (cf. 1982: 19) (such as in snowflake, songwriter, starlight, and underground), while the second, rather exceptional kind has no head at all (cf. 1982: 19) (such as in hunchback, pickpocket, lazybones, cutthroat, and redskin). However, the denotation of a head is controversial. Williams proposed the so-called 'Right-hand Head Rule' (RHR), which says that 'the righthand member of a morphologically complex word is the head of

This volume consists entirely of materials posted on my website / blog: "Biblical Evidence for Catholicism": written between 1997 and 2011: several in direct response to Protestant queries or challenges. I've revised them in order to clarify the thoughts and to "tighten" up the arguments. My goal is to defend and clarify what Catholics believe with regard to ecclesiology, or the doctrine of the Church (including the papacy), why we do, and to demonstrate that Catholic beliefs are in harmony with Holy Scripture and the doctrines held by the early Church. Protestants deny the infallibility of the Church, and hold that Scripture alone is the only final, infallible authority (denying that characteristic to the Church and apostolic tradition and the papacy). Therefore, if Catholics can show that an infallible Church and papacy are squarely based on Scripture, Protestants would be bound to those beliefs, by their own rule of faith (sola Scriptura). My aim is to demonstrate exactly that.

I was raised in a world where humans no longer rule. In the past, we made a terrible mistake by creating a new species we thought would serve us as our army, which led to our downfall. There was a war, we lost, and many lives were massacred. It was the end of life as we knew it and the beginning of a hell we were now trapped in. We became enslaved to what we now called Superiors, becoming pets to them, simply there to entertain. In a world so miserable, I managed to do the unthinkable: I fell in love. But even that was doomed, because to love a Superior was forbidden. What the rest of the Superiors didn't know was how deeply a human could love or how resilient we became when we were hurt. The Superiors never could have imagined an uprising, which was why they never saw it coming. Humans deserved to be free, and I would stop at nothing to deliver that promise. My name is Tilly, and I am still alive with one sole purpose: to begin a revolution~I had been raised to believe humans were worthless. We owned them and controlled them, and when we were done with them, we threw them away. Therefore, I never thought I would ever feel more for Tilly than disinterest. I never expected to want to save her. It was forbidden for a Superior to love a human. No one had ever crossed that line, but I did. I fell madly in love with her, so it was no surprise how we ended up.I was raised to be a soldier, and that was what I was always going to be. However, I was not a soldier for the Superiors, not anymore.I became a soldier for humans, and I would stop at nothing to help them. They deserved to be free, and I would die protecting them. My name is Johnny, and I am here with one sole purpose: to finish a revolution. New Adult Dystopian Romance*Standalone*Recommended for readers 17+ due to adult themes, sexual situations, violence and occasional swearing. Professionally edited by C & D Editing. The Ground Rules were impossible to follow. It was hard not to become completely consumed by the beautiful and enigmatic Weston Hanson. The heart of a romantic was not fit for this kind of exchange. So, when it ended, I was shattered, but it was all for the better…or so we thought. The Ground Rules were rewritten, and then bent. We lied to ourselves. We told ourselves we could handle this. Not a single one of us realized just how big this was. just how devastating it could become. And now, there are no Rules. We are undone. Lust… infatuation…blinds you. It can tear everything apart. But sometimes, life needs to be completely torn apart before it can be mended - not just cracked at the edges, but utterly shattered, before you can truly see the mess you've become. I love them both, but I can't have them both. While one pulls me in, the other pushes me away. And when both eventually open their hearts, I must make the hardest decision of my life.

Breaking up is hard to do. This rule of thumb is even truer for a child going through a divorce of parents. Oftentimes, kids feel as if the divorce has hit them even harder than their parents. When parents decide to file for divorce, they need to take necessary steps to protect their children from common divorce battle scars. Many of these scars follow kids long into adulthood, creating havoc in their own relationships in life. And, the sad part is that the majority of the battle scars didn't have to be inflicted on these kids in the first place. Shimmering waves rose in my vision, like heat off a California blacktop. It wasnt heat that caused the waver. The air was not wavering: reality was. Well, not reality, just my place in it. It happened again. The street morphed. Reality twisted before my eyes. First a flower shop, then a bookstore, a pet store, office space, warehouses? Now back to storefronts but with a difference. The matrix took me far afield. In front of me was Dan and Daves All Night Trauma Stand and Cut Rate Surgery. I hoped this reality was not one of the long-lasting ones. Im afraid it was. The Trauma Stand did not waver, but I did: nausea, headache. The ground reached up and grabbed me, pulling me face first into the pavement: not a good beginning. Darkness. Consciousness returned. My mouth felt stuffed with sandpaper, and my was face stiff with dried blood. The cold hard floor sucked the heat from my body. Welcome to a new dimension. Normally transition didnt hit so hard. I would not still be around if it did. The first time I changed realities, the disorientation nearly killed me, but I learned how to survive. The physical shock is bad, but the changes in society are equally disorientating. Every society has its rules, both conscious and unconscious, and woe to one who breaks them. Imagine being in a car crash and waking up in a different country. Thats how it felt. -from Transdimensional Blues, Chapter 1: Jake Stonewall. When faced with a 'human error' problem, you may be tempted to ask 'Why didn't these people watch out better?' Or, 'How can I get my people more engaged in safety?' You might think you can solve your safety problems by telling your people to be more careful, by reprimanding the miscreants, by issuing a new rule or procedure and demanding compliance. These are all expressions of 'The Bad Apple Theory' where you believe your system is basically safe if it were not for those few unreliable people in it. Building on its successful predecessors, the third edition of The Field Guide to Understanding 'Human Error' will help you understand a new way of dealing with a perceived 'human error' problem in your organization. It will help you trace how your organization juggles inherent trade-offs between safety and other pressures and expectations, suggesting that you are not the custodian of an already safe system. It will encourage you to start looking more closely at the performance that others may still call 'human error', allowing you to discover how your people create safety through practice, at all levels of your organization, mostly successfully, under the pressure of resource constraints and multiple conflicting goals. The Field Guide to Understanding 'Human Error' will help you understand how to move beyond 'human error'; how to understand accidents; how to do better investigations; how to understand and improve your safety work. You will be invited to think creatively and differently about the safety issues you and your organization face. In each, you will find possibilities for a new language, for different concepts, and for new leverage points to influence your own thinking and practice, as well as that of your colleagues and organization. If you are faced with a 'human error' problem, abandon the fallacy of a quick fix. Read this book.
